Undefeated Sydney based heavyweight Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa has signed with the UFC.
The move had been rumored ever since the 23 year-old defeated English veteran James McSweeney to defend his heavyweight title at Australian Fighting Championship 17 last month. The promotion made it official via the Herald Sun, which is also reporting that the deal is for three fights. It’s unknown at this stage when he’ll make his UFC debut.
Training out of the Lions High Performance Centre alongside 10-time UFC veteran James Te Huna, Tuivasa (5-0) has looked impressive since making his debut back in 2012, with all his victories coming via a first round stoppage.
Prior to the McSweeney victory, “Bam Bam”, who has also served as Mark Hunt’s sparring partner in recent times, needed just 21 seconds to snatch the AFC title from Brandon Sosoli, knocking the former champion out cold with a brutal elbow up against the cage (fight video here).
Is local heavyweight Tai Tuivasa UFC bound?
“Bam Bam” was recently spotted with UFC officials in Sydney, fueling speculation. Here we take a look back at his quickfire, KO of the year contender from AFC 16 in June.
