Valor 8 takes place on Saturday, June 14, from Albert Hall in Launceston, Tasmania.
In what will be the promotion’s two-year anniversary offering, the show is set to feature a four-man, one-night, lightweight title tournament with Steven Maxwell, David Butt, Adam Cook and Chris Drummond all vying to become the inaugural lightweight champion.
The tournament final will headline the event, with a featherweight tilt between Brisbane’s Pat Promrangka and Sydney’s Adam Corbett filling out the co-main event slot.

- David Butt vs Adam Cook – Lightweight Tournament Final and title
Round 1: Lightweight title on the line here with both David Butt and Adam Cook coming off unanimous decision wins in the tournament semi-finals. Kick to the ribs lands early from Cook and Butt ties him up briefly before they separate. Butt receives a low blow and the ref calls a brief halt to the action. Jabs from both fighters now as they reengage. Butt taking centre cage. Cook lands a huge kick to Butt’s body and Butt is hurt and backs off. Cook charges in and gets a takedown. Full guard here as Butt adopts a high guard. Ref stands them up After a period of inactivity. A Wild flurry from both guys and Cook lands another kick to Butt’s ribs. Cook continues to punish the mid section of Butt. Leg kick connects from Butt. End of the first.
Round 2: Head kick from Cook is blocked and Butt comes forward and ties him up. Cook reverses before they break. Butt not taking a backward step here but Cook lands another kick to his ribs. Butt forces Cook up against the fence and lands short shots to his ribs. They separate now and Cook continues to attack with kicks. Butt locks up a standing guillotine choke then drops to the ground and looks to finish it from full guard but Cook escapes. Cook not doing much here in top position as Butt lands short elbows to his head. Ref stands them up. Head kick from Cook is blocked as the round ends.
Round 3: Butt attacks with punches as the third round commences however Cook judo trips him to the canvas before moving to side control. The ref intervenes after butt connects with an illegal up kick. More kicks from Cook as Butt continues with punches. Up against the cage once again but they separate now and Butt lands a pair of big head shots. He takes Cook’s back and forces him to the ground. Short shots to the side of Cook’s head as Butt looks for a choke. Cook holds on and the round ends.
Round 4: Butt head hunting once more as the fourth round begins as Cook looks to counter strike. Both men looking understandably exhausted here but both guys continue to attack. Butt landing with some big punches now. More big shots from Butt as Cook covers up and back peddles. Cook drops down for a single leg and eventually gets it to the ground. Butt locks up a triangle choke but he cant hold onto it and the round ends.
Round 5: Strikes from both fighters as the final round begins. Cook trying to keep the distance as Butt looks to get inside and land with his boxing. Butt looking busted up here and the ref calls a stop to check the cut above his eye. He gets the all clear and as they reengage, Cook lands a lazy kick to the groin of Butt and the fight is halted while Butt recovers. Restart now and more kicks from both fighters. Butt lands another right hand. One minute remains and Butt connects with yet another right hand before tying Cook up and as they hit the ground the final round comes to a close.

- Pat Promrangka vs Adam Corbett
Round 1: Brisbane vs Sydney, Promrangka vs Corbett up now in the featherweight division. Promrangka not wanting to touch gloves as they start. Leg kick from Corbett and he stumbles, Promrangka lets him back up. Corbett hits the canvas again and this time he works for a leg lock but Promrangka defends well and lets him stand once more. Promrangka stalking Corbett here. Corbett drives in and scores a double leg takedown. Corbett works to half guard now but Promrangka is back up, he scoops Corbett up and dumps him to the ground where he locks up a rear-naked choke and the ref is forced to separate the two fighters with Corbett now unconscious.

- Ryan Gray vs Josh Karst
Round 1: Featherweight division up now as Josh Karst from Tasmania and Ryan Gray from Perth face off in an interstate encounter. Karst opens up with a body kick but Gray locks up a guillotine choke as he comes forward. Gray drops and holds onto the choke and the ref breaks the fighters and calls a stop to the short lived contest much to the protest of Karst who is claiming he did not tap.

- Bayden Mandich vs Jake Fleming
Round 1: This lightweight contest hits the ground early and after a mad scramble from both fighters they stand. Fleming dumps Mandich to the canvas and moves to north south position. Mandich transitions to Fleming’s back however, and locks up a rear-naked choke and forces the tap.

- Sam Chapman vs Jamie Watterson
Round 1: Sam Chapman vs Jamie Watterson up now in an all Tassie lightweight affair. Both fighters come out swinging to begin with both landing punches, the fight hits the ground briefly and they’re standing now once again. Watterson locks up a standing guillotine choke before pulling guard and dropping to the canvas where he forces the tap within moments.

- Pete Smith vs Matt Hurd
Round 1: Welterweights up now at Valor 8. Leg kick from Smith lands. Smith lands a huge kick to the chin of Hurd as he looks to slip on the canvas and Hurd is out cold. Fight over. Hurd stays down receiving attention from officials for some time.
Result: Fight was later ruled a no-contest due to a Canvas malfunction causing Hurd to slip
- Jacob Gelston vs Adam Trickey
Round 1: Another lightweight fight up now. Trickey on the offensive from the start with strikes. Gelston lands a leg kick but Trickey keeps hold of the leg and gets the takedown. Trickey then locks up a D’arce choke and forces the tap.

- Adam Cook vs Steven Maxwell – Lightweight Tournament Semi-final
Round 1: Second tournament semi-final underway and it’s a tentative start from both men. Maxwell ties Cook up and works for a takedown but Cook defends well. Leg kick from Cook connects as they separate. Maxwell centre cage, Cook comes forward and ties him up, he lands a knee to Maxwell’s head from there. Cook locks up a guillotine choke as Maxwell drops for a takedown. He gets it, but only briefly and they stand right as the bell sounds.
Round 2: Maxwell looks to close the distance early in the second and gets the takedown. Cook locks up an armbar but Maxwell rolls and takes his back, Cook does well to transition however and winds up on top. He gains mount soon after. Maxwell rolls and Cook works for a rear-naked choke. Both hooks in for Cook now as Maxwell desperately defends. Great show of strength from Maxwell as he scrambles and winds up in Cook’s guard and the round ends.
Round 3: Maxwell on the offensive here coming forward with bombs in the third. Left hook connects from Maxwell and they clinch briefly. Maxwell lands an uppercut with both fighters slowing down here. The fight hits the canvas with Maxwell in top position. Cook locks up a leg lock but doesn’t have time to finish it and the fight ends.

- David Butt vs Chris Drummond – Lightweight Tournament Semi-final
Round 1: Drummond comes into this fight with a 2-2 record, Butt’s record stands at 4-4. Butt gets an early takedown but Drummond gets back to his feet. Drummond lands as the two fighters tee off and Butt is wobbled but he recovers quickly. Butt coming forward swarming Drummond with punches. Drummond lands with a leg kick. Butt getting the better of the standup here as they go toe to toe and the round comes to an end.
Round 2: Butt continues to stalk Drummond with punches as Drummond fires back and lands shots of his own. Drummond going to the body with right hands as Butt paws back with jabs. Drummond shoots for a takedown however Butt sprawls easily and they’re standing again. Uppercut connects from Butt, he follows it up with a right hand which wobbles Drummond. Drummond covering up here as Butt unleashes with punches and the round ends.
Round 3: Touch of gloves to begin the final frame and Butt once again opens up with punches. Drummond swings but doesn’t connect. Butt landing multiple jabs here. Uppercut lands from Butt now. Overhand right lands from Drummond and Butt pushes him up against the cage and the two men break just as the final bell sounds.
