John Wayne Parr returns to action this Saturday night at Powerplay Promotions 24, where in the main event the Aussie muay thai icon will square off with 20 year-old young gun Toby Smith for the WKA World Middleweight Title.
Powerplay Promotions 24 takes place at the Melbourne Pavilion and is set to feature 13 full thai rules bouts including three title fights. The live stream is scheduled to kick off at 7pm AEST and is available for purchase now at our LIVE FIGHTS page.
Parr will be looking to make it an impressive nine wins in a row when he enters the ring on Saturday night, after remaining undefeated since mid-2011. The 38 year-old multiple world champion is coming off a win over France’s Yohan Lidon, who he outpointed over five rounds back in early March at Boonchu Cup 4. Parr’s last encounter under the Powerplay banner ended in a points victory over Brad Riddell at Powerplay 22.
At just 20 years of age, the Thailand based Smith is already a five-year veteran of the sport, and has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks with wins over the likes of Lumpini champion Thongchai Sitsongpeenong who he defeated earlier in the year at Yokkao 6 in Thailand.
The WKA Victorian Super Lightweight and Cruiserweight Titles will also be up for grabs on the night. Rob Minnitti and Kenny Tse will face off for the lightweight crown while Scott Vezina and Johnny Bourke are set to clash for the cruiserweight strap.
