Jake Carr (pictured) successfully defended his Australian super-middleweight boxing title with a decisive decision victory over all-round combat sports athlete Dane Mulivai.
Both fighters went in to the bout undefeated in professional boxing, with Mulivai also having experience in kickboxing and mixed martial arts bouts.
Fighting in front his home-crowd, 23 year-old Carr took control of the early rounds, landing the better punches as Mulivai stalked his opponent around the ring. Mulivai did shock Carr with big exchange in the third round but it was far and few between as the Queensland based fighter failed to land that big knockout punch his known for while Carr slipped and moved well. In the end the judged awarded Carr the unanimous decision 100-90, 100-90 and 100-91.
With the win, Carr takes his record to 8-0 (3 KO’s) while Mulivai drops his first professional boxing fight to go 4-1 (4 KO’s).
The bout was one of three Australian title fights on the card as earlier in the night Rivan Cesaire edged out Samuel Colomban by a split points decision to take out the vacant Australian welterweight title, while Qamil Balla defended his Australian light-welterweight title with a unanimous decision over Terry Tzouramanis.
The event took place at The Melbourne Pavilion in Victoria and was televised live on Fox Sports Australia.
