According to Tom Wright (pictured), the UFC’s managing director of operations in Australia, Canada and New Zealand, the promotion will be returning to Sydney for their next Australian offering at a yet to be finalised date in the back half of this year.
“I can’t confirm anything just yet but we’ll be here in the back half of the year, back to Sydney. The date hasn’t been finalised just yet.” Wright said at the post-fight press conference for UFC Fight Night 43 in Auckland.
It’s been almost two-and-a-half years since UFC on FX 2 at the Allphones Arena, the last UFC show to come to Sydney. That event saw Martin Kampmann submit Thiago Alves in the headliner, while Australia’s James Te Huna, Anthony Perosh and Kyle Noke also fought on the night.
Previously the UFC has hosted five Australian based events with three of those taking place in Sydney and more recently one each for the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The impending Sydney offering is not expected to be a pay-per-view card.
