New Zealander Israel Adesanya has a chance to add to the country’s esteemed kickboxing history when he challenges Jason Wilnis for the Glory middleweight title this Saturday night (Australian time) in Los Angeles.
Adesanya got the opportunity for the title shot after winning the Glory four-man contender tournament late last year where he defeated two opponents in one night.
Adesanya, who also goes by the moniker “The Last Stylebender” because of his flashy techniques, holds an impressive record of 65-3 with 27 (T) KO’s.
The 27-year-old is full of confidence going into the contest and believes he can bring New Zealand kickboxing back to its glory days where Ray Sefo and Mark Hunt reigned supreme in K1.
Standing in Adesanya’s way is tough Dutchman Jason Wilnis. Wilnis boats a record of 29-6-1 with 8 (T) KO’s. He won the Glory middleweight title off defending champion Simon Marcus last September, stopping him in the third round.
Glory is now widely considered the premier organization for kickboxing in the world with events being held throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The organization recently signed a multi-year broadcasting deal with American sports network ESPN but a slot on Australian television is still missing.
The Glory 37 main card PPV will be broadcast at eversport.tv while the undercard (SuperFight Series) will be streamed live and exclusive on UFC Fight Pass.
