Lucas Browne’s rise up the heavyweight boxing ranks continued on Friday night when he defeated Ukrainian fighter Andriy Rudenko who came into the fight undefeated himself.
The semi-main event bout was promoted by Ricky Hatton Promotions and held at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.
“Big Daddy” Browne and his opponent both went hammer-and-tongs at each other in the early rounds, but Browne slowly started get the upper-hand in the second-half of the contest. Browne landed massive shots on his 30 year-old opponent but Rudenko stay upwards and continued to find a way to cause the upset.
It was the first time the Australian had gone the full 12-rounds, but in the end all three judges awarded the fight to Browne 116-112, 117-112 and 115-113.
With the win the 35 year-old defended his WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council title and captured the WBA Inter-Continential title previously held by the likes of Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko.
The former mixed martial artist moves his professional boxing record to 21-0 and a step closer to a fight against one of the big names in heavyweight boxing.
