The UFC purged a large number of fighters from their active roster last week with Australian fighters Brendan O’Reilly and Anton Zafir among those who were removed.
O’Reilly’s release came with little surprise after back-to-back losses to Alan Jouban and most recently to Dong Hyun Kim back in December, which took his UFC record to 1-3. His lone win came against Australian rival Vik Grujic back in 2015 after an appearance in the The Ultimate Fighter – Australia vs Canada season.
Twenty-nine year-old Zafir signed with the UFC as a late replacement to take on James Moontasri at UFC 193 back in 2015. He received his walking papers after losing both outings in the Octagon against Moontasri and Jingliang Li.
UFC veterans Brock Lesnar, Lorenz Larkin, Rick Story and Cole Miller were also among the list of casualties.
