Ben Nguyen has just booked the biggest fight of his career as revealed by Fox Sports earlier this morning.
The American who trains out of Integrated MMA in Brisbane will look to propel his name into future title contention when he faces one of the best flyweights in the world, Joseph Benavidez.
Nguyen is coming off a clinical victory over Geane Herrera in Melbourne last year, no doubt capturing the attention of UFC matchmakers and is currently ranked 13 in the division.
Benavidez was last seen in the octagon with a split decision over Henry Cejudo in December last year. The 32 year old has long been at the top of the pack at 125lbs and is currently riding a six-fight win streak.
Also confirmed for Fight Night 110 is Australia’s newest UFC fighter, Ashkan Mokhtarian.
Mokhtarian, who will make his debut in Auckland, is jumping straight into the deep end of the flyweight division, signing on to face number 11 ranked John Moraga.
It was revealed in early March that Mokhtarian, 31, had signed with the UFC. Training out of the Australian Top Team gym in Sydney, “The Assassin” (13-1) will ride a six-fight win streak into the clash which includes wins against the likes of Shannon McClellan (8-4), Muhammad Zainal (6-6) and Chinese veteran Honggang Yao (19-6-1).
His opponent Moraga is coming off three consecutive losses and will be looking to get back into the winners column.
UFC Fight Night 110 takes place on June 11 at Auckland’s Vector Arena. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight collision between Mark Hunt and Derrick Lewis. A middleweight fight between Australia’s Dan Kelly and Derek Brunson is also slated for the show.
