A light heavyweight title fight between Duke Didier and Mike Turner headlines Brace 49 in Canberra this weekend. The event takes place Saturday night at the AIS Arena.
Undefeated after five outings, national Judo champion Didier returns to MMA competition for the first time since he stopped Slav Surla back in early 2015. The hometown favorite on the night has yet to go the distance in a career which includes a 53 second submission of Sam Kei.
Turner also holds a victory against Kei and will hold the experience advantage when the two meet. The South Australia native, who won the promotion’s 2014 Light Heavyweight Championship Tournament, will be eager to rebound on the night, however, following consecutive defeats to Jim Crute and Nathan Reddy.
In the co-main event, Tasmania’s Ethan Duniam takes on South Australia’s Myles Simpson in a lightweight bout.
Simpson is coming of a unanimous decision win over Garret Gross which earned the former pro muay thai fighter the Eternal MMA featherweight title.
Following his victory against Jesse Medina last year, Duniam went the distance with local standouts Kieran Joblin and Greg Atzori however found himself on the wrong side of the judge’s scorecards in both.
Duniam vs. Simpson was originally slated to take place on the Minotaur 5 event which was recently canceled.
Brace 49 will be streamed live via the promotion’s website with the replay to be made available on demand at UFC Fight Pass.
