Hector Lombard (34-4-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will make his Octagon return against Josh Burkman (27-10 MMA, 5-5 UFC) on January 3 in Las Vegas.
The welterweight matchup is the latest addition to the UFC 182 card which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. UFC President Dana White Tweeted the news Friday. The event features a light heavyweight title clash between defending champion Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier in the main event.
Lombard had previously been campaigning for a spot on the Nov. 8 Sydney Fight Night card, however attempts to find an opponent for the Cuban-born Aussie were unsuccessful. The 36 year-old will be gunning for three consecutive victories in January after stopping Nate Marquardt and most recently out pointing Jake Shields at UFC 171.
Burkman has gone an impressive 9-2 since being dropped by the promotion six years ago after losing three on the trot against Mike Swick, Dustin Hazelett and Pete Sell. Notable, the 34 year-old defeated Jon Fitch and Aaron Simpson in his time away, and will make his return on the back of a first round knockout of Tyler Stinson at WSOF 9 back in March.
