Megan Anderson returns to the cage in July but she won’t be fighting Cyborg.
The Gold Coast Native, who trains out of Glory MMA in Missouri, has been booked to defend her featherweight strap against undefeated Ukrainian fighter Helena Kolesnyk as first reported by MMA Fighting.
Kolesnyk will be making her promotional debut for Invicta and has strung together five impressive victories all via stoppage (strikes). Despite giving away a height and reach advantage it would appear that this match up will pit two very heavy hitters against each other in what will no doubt be a fun fight for the fans.
Anderson albeit disappointed to not be getting the much anticipated match-up against the former Invicta champ will be sharping the tools nonetheless ready to put on another great performance in an effort to continue her campaign for a spot on the UFC roster.
As it currently stands the UFC’s featherweight division is in shambles with current champ Germaine de Randamie looking to move back down to 135lb instead of facing Cyborg who she has labelled a “cheat.” It would appear that the next logical step for the UFC, now that they know Anderson is unavailable, would be to book Zingano in her place, potentially for the vacant 145lb belt.
Invicta FC 24 will take place on July 15 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri.
