‘John’ Wayne Parr will step into the cage on Friday night at Caged Muay Thai (CMT) 10 to defend his middleweight title against Irish fighter James ‘Sexual’ Heelan after original opponent Jake Purdy broke his toe while training for the bout.
Recently living in Phuket and training out of the Kaewphitak Muay Thai gym, Heelan faces a monumental task in order to cause an upset at the Logan Metro Sports Centre in two days time. Parr is without a doubt the more seasoned fighter in the matchup and his ‘big fight’ experience will put him in a strong position to get the result over the young Heelan.
The unique nature of the CMT series, with all fighters wearing MMA gloves, is that just one punch can be enough to take a fight and Heelan will be looking to advantage, no matter how small the chance may be.
The fight represents an amazing opportunity for Heelan to make a name for himself by facing one of the world’s best, but Parr is sure to be riding a wave of confidence following his head-kick knockout of Italian fighter Nando Calzetta on his Bellator Kickboxing debut back in April.
Heelan only recently fought in Australia, taking on veteran muay thai fighter Adam Bailey in Perth in early July where he was stopped in the third round of their fight for the vacant World Kickboxing Association (WKA) Intercontinental title.
In the semi main event, Ghot Seur Noi will be defending his CMT Lightweight title against the tough Chris Wells from New Zealand. Both fighters are coming off recent losses with Ghot having lost at EM Legend in China, while Wells dropped a close decision to Albert Xavier at Warriors Way 19.
