Absolute Championship Berkut’s (ACB) Australian debut has received a further boost with four new names joining the December lineup, including long-time local welterweight standout Corey Nelson, Fight News Australia can reveal.
ACB 76 takes place Dec. 9 at a yet to be announced venue on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
Today’s news follows a recent report from FNA which detailed the first group of fighters signed on to compete at the landmark event.
For years one of the top unsigned Australian fighters, Sydney’s Corey Nelson (20-6-2) has won 11 of his last 14 fights, most recently fighting to a draw with powerhouse Alexander Butenko in China after almost finishing the Ukraine veteran with unanswered strikes (video).
Also slated to compete at the event is respected Hervey Bay based lightweight Greg Atzori (18-10), who makes his ACB debut after facing some of the country’s best since making his pro debut over seven years ago.
Fighting out of the IMMA gym in Brisbane, Alex MacDonald (11-3) is currently riding a four-fight win streak with his most recent victory coming against Anthony Bynoe to claim the Brace lightweight title back in late 2016. Undefeated in the 12 months, MacDonald went 3-0 and scored second spot in the 2016 FNA Domestic Male Fighter of the Year category for his efforts, one behind current UFC featherweight Alexander Volkanovski.
Originally hailing from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, submission specialist Daniel Almeida (7-5) now calls Byron Bay in NSW home. Almeida holds a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and joins the ACB 76 lineup after competing under the AFC banner in Melbourne.
Absolute Championship Berkut is one of the fastest growing promotions in the world, hosting an impressive 66 MMA events since its inception back in 2014.
