Aussie featherweight standout Alex Volkanovski has withdrawn from his PXC 49 title fight with Japanese champion Yusuke Yachi on August 7 due to staph infection.
The 26 year-old, who is currently riding a seven fight win streak, revealed the news via his Facebook page.
I have some heartbreaking news. I have had to pull out from my PXC title fight against Yachi due to a staph infection. Not only do I feel like I have let PXC down but I apologise to Yachi as well who I am sure was prepping hard for this fight and now has to wait for me to recover. I have attached the video of the surgery on my knee to show you guys where I’m at. I can not thank PXC enough for postponing the fight, treating me as good as you do and always sticking by me, I feel honoured to represent as a PXC fighter and the doctors say I have two more weeks of getting the wound packed and then I can start training for when PXC are ready for me. I promise I will make this fight worth everyone’s wait. Thank you to my sponsors who have been incredible throughout this camp as they have through all my camps. Again, sorry PXC, Yachi, my sponsors, my team and everyone that was looking forward to watching me fight, the PXC crowd treat me like a local and it hurts to feel I have let you guys down. With your continued help, I will come back stronger and be wearing that belt as soon as I get over this!
