Yoel Romero has missed weight for his championship fight against UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.
Romero made two attempts to make the championship weight of 185 pounds. He first came in 186 pounds and on his second attempt weighed 185.2 pounds, making him ineligible to win the title.
It is the second time in a row Romero has missed weight for a championship fight after he failed to do so against Luke Rockhold in Perth for the interim title.
Much like the fight in Perth earlier in the year, the show will go on. Romero will now fight Whittaker in a non-title fight.
There was the potential that the fight could fall apart, but it has been said that Whittaker wanted the fight no matter what, to prove he is the best in the world.
Robert Whittaker is willing to fight Yoel Romero tomorrow in a non-title bout (it can’t be for belt bc YR missed weight), his mgr Titus Day tells me. It’s up to YR at this point and his team. “Rob is here to finish Romero and show he’s the best in the world,” Day said. “Period.”

In other fights featuring Aussies, Megan Anderson weighed in at 146 pounds for her UFC debut against Holly Holm and Tai Tuivasa easily made the heavyweight limit coming in at 261 pounds.
