Alex Volkanovski wanted the chance to fight on US soil against a ranked opponent and he did not disappoint when given his opportunity.
Taking on the number 10 ranked Darren ‘The Damage’ Elkins in Boise, Idaho, Volkanovski dominated Elkins throughout the fight on his way to a unanimous decision victory. The win proved once more why Volkanvoski is more than ready to be fighting the elite fighters of the UFC.
The first round started with both fighters finding success early on the feet before a right hand from Volkanovski dropped Elkins. Volkanvski immediately went for a guillotine choke but Elkins managed to survive before being dropped again with 30 seconds to go. With the sound of the horn for the end of the first-round, Elkins was clearly stunned and needed help getting back to his corner.

Knowing Elkins was more than capable of coming back from the brink of defeat, Volkanovski took a measured approach to the next two rounds while continuing to land a number of right hands which would have stopped a lesser opponent. Despite being bloody and beat up, Elkins kept coming despite Volkanoski’s relentless pressure and accuracy with his shots.
After the fight, Volkanovski called for a top 5 opponent next and said he would be willing to fight Chad Mendes in Adelaide should he get a victory later on in the night.
