With a 10-1 start to his professional career, New Zealand’s Matt “The Viper” Vaile will step-up to face Japanese fighter Takashi Sato on the historical Pancrase 300 card next month.
The card, which will take place at the Studio Coast Arena in Tokyo on October 21, will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
In his last outing, the 27-year-old added the Hex Fight Series welterweight title to his XFC strap – a title he has defended a record four times. With wins against the likes of highly regarded regional fighters Andrew Mills, Brogan Anderson and Kitt Campbell, Vaile’s lone blemish came at the hands of former UFC fighter Ben Alloway two years ago.
A win for Vaile in Sato’s hometown will make a big statement in the promotions welterweight division as the Kiwi will continue to make a claim for a UFC call-up.
His opponent, 28-year-old Takashi Sato will come into the bout on the back of a loss, having lost to Brazilian Glaico Franca in a Pancrase welterweight title fight back in July. The gruelling bout looked to be going in Sato’s favour, especially after a dominant third round where he had Franca hurt but credit to his opponent who recovered to secure the back and the neck, to get the submission victory.
With a combined 15 KO’s & TKO’s, both these fighters will be looking for the finish.
It will be a monumental night for the Japanese promotion who will be celebrating their 300th main show. Despite being named Pancrase 300, the promotion has also held over 40 events under various other names since 1993.
