Rising local featherweight Joshua Culibao improved his unblemished record to 7-0 on Saturday night in Adelaide, stopping vastly more experienced Brazilian Rodolfo Marques with a stunning head-kick knockout and punches at Diamondback FC 7.
Thirty-four year-old Marques, a Brazilian BJJ black belt, made his intensions clear throughout the contest, trying to control the younger fighter up against the cage, and then from the chest battle, work to get the fight to the canvas. Culibao, however, demonstrated solid takedown defence and was able to stay composed and keep the contest standing, where he looked his most dangerous.
Both fighters had their moments in the striking exchanges, but it was Culibao who stamped his mark on the fight with a head-kick in the fourth round, which dropped the tiring Marques to the canvas. The Sydney fighter wasted no time from there and sealed the deal with lightning fast right hands until the ref called it off.
Culibao, 24, the current Hex Fight Series featherweight champion, was crowned the DBFC featherweight champion with the hard fought victory.
Third degree BJJ Black Belt Daniel Almeida did not need his high level grappling to finish local fighter Dan Currie in the co-main event. The Queensland based middleweight stunned the hometown favorite in the second round with one of the most devastating head-kick knockouts you’ll see. Hands low, Currie was sent crashing backwards to the canvas with the kick and stayed down for some time there after.
DBFC 7 took place in the William Magarey Room at the Adelaide Oval in South Australia and was streamed live via the online streaming app FITE TV.
