A preliminary card bout between Mizuto Hirota and Christos Giagos has been added to the UFC Fight Night 142 card with both fighters needing a win to keep their place in the promotion.
The two lightweights have only two UFC victories combined from 10 appearances in the Octagon. Both fighters are having their second stint with the promotion. “The Spartan” Giagos brings a 15-7 professional record while 37-year-old Hirota’s record stands at 18-9-2. Their UFC records stand at 1-3 and 1-4-1 respectively.
In his first stint, Giagos split losses to Gilbert Burns and Chris Wade with a victory over Jorge de Oliveira. He got his return ticket to the promotion in September but was submitted by Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 137.
Hirota is a veteran of the sport, having made his debut back in 2005. He came over from Strikeforce and made his UFC debut in 2013 but back-to-back decision losses to Rani Yahya and Rodrigo Damm sent him back to the Japanese regional scene. Competing as a contestant on ‘Road to UFC: Japan’, Hirota secured another shot though battled to a draw against compatriot Teruto Ishihara. A win over fellow veteran Cole Miller was followed by decision losses to Alex Volkanovski and Ross Pearson.
UFC Adelaide takes place on December 2nd at the Adelaide Entertainment Center. Tickets are selling out for the event though some categories are still available.
