Aussie fans are going to have to wait a little bit longer to see Alex Volkanovski challenge for the UFC featherweight title.
In an interview with Submission Radio, UFC President Dana White confirmed Max Holloway would not be ready in time to defend the title against Alex Volkanovski at UFC 243 in Australia.
“Yeah, no, that’s not happening,” White said of the potential match up taking place at UFC 243.
“I don’t think that Max could turn around and cut the weight again that fast. So, I don’t want to put him in that type of situation.”
Holloway has already fought in April and July of this year after losing an interim lightweight title fight to Dustin Poirier and defending his featherweight title against Frankie Edgar.
Another fight in October was always going to be a tough ask for Holloway who was forced to withdraw from a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018, after being declared medically unfit to compete after complications from weight cutting.
A title fight between Volkanovski and Holloway is now likely to take place in December.
