The Ultimate Fighter Alumni, Benjamin Sosoli had another opportunity to impress UFC brass on Wednesday afternoon (AEST) when the heavyweight faced the undefeated Dustin Joynson on Dana White’s Contender Series.
Unfortunately for the Melbourne based fighter, the bout ended in a no-contest with his opponent not continuing due to an eye injury.
While the eye poke was apparent, what wasn’t as clear is how it happened, with Sosoli throwing a right punch, with possibly the thumb digging into his opponent’s eye and causing the injury.
Up to that point, Sosoli was looking good. Joynson alerted the referee that he could not see and the bout halted so that referee to check on the fighter. It was deemed that he could not continue, ending the slugfest only 2:08 into the bout.
“Ben can’t catch a break, this kid,” Dana White commented when announcing UFC contract winners at the end of the show.
“He’s had some tough goes trying to get in the UFC. I am doing an episode of ‘Looking for a Fight’ in Hawaii this fall.
“I am going to bring this kid on ‘Looking for a Fight’ and give him another opportunity. Hopefully, the third time is the charm for this kid.”
