Josh Tonna started his One Championship career losing his opening two fights and his career within the promotion was hanging by a thread. The Canberra 31-year-old has bounced back with force, winning his third on the trot last night with a knock-out victory in Jakarta.
Competing under One’s Super Series Muay Thai rules, Tonna put on a stellar performance against United Kingdom veteran Andy “Punisher” Howson. In the first round, both fighters were calm and collective but throwing with power on the outside.
Tonna changed to southpaw in the second round and took a little bit of time to get his timing going which allowed Howson to land a series of punches. With 60-seconds left in the round, Tonna found his distance, worked his opponent against the ropes where he kept a high pace. The 31-year-old secured the Thai clinch and, as his opponent looked to turn off the ropes, Tonna landed a flush knee.
