It’s been a mixed start for the Aussies at UFC Auckland with Jake Matthews picking up a solid win and Callan Potter suffering a heavy defeat.
Jake Matthews and Emil Meek put on a wild back and forth fight with both fighters leaving it all inside the cage.
In the lead up to the fight, Matthews said he was willing to put it all on the line saying that he played it safe during his most recent win at UFC 243 in Melbourne.
Matthews landed a huge left uppercut in the first round that lifted Meek off his feet; he then rushed him to the canvas easily winning the first round.

Both fighters went for it right up until the final bell, with Meek running straight for Matthews and attempting a flying knee to end the fight.
Matthews’s accurate striking and control once the fight hit the mat was too much for Maeek in the end with Matthews managing to pick up the win via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Callan Potter opened the show for the Aussies on the card coming out to a Kiwi classic from Dave Dobyn which got the Auckland fans right behind him.
The Melbourne native came into the fight full of confidence after picking up his first UFC win in Melbourne last year.
Up against a tough Chinese opponent in Song Kena, both fighters were more than happy to stand and trade leather in the middle of the Octagon.
The Aussie was no match for the power of Kena, however, as Potter was caught flush on the jaw before being stopped by punches at 2.20 of the first round.
