Weeks after being reported in the media, the middleweight fight between Robert Whittaker and Darren Till has been officially announced by UFC officials.
The bout to headline the July 26 (AEST) card on ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi.
Whittaker, the former middleweight champion, has been out of action since losing the championship belt to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243 in Melbourne last October.
The 29-year-old was looking to rebound against Jared Cannonier in March however personal reasons forced him out of the bout.
Training out of Sydney, Whittaker was slated to face Darren Till in Dublin this August however COVID-19 complications had forced the bout to be moved to ‘Fight Island’.
After back-to-back losses at welterweight, Till moved to the middleweight division and edged a split-points decision against Kelvin Gastelum in November.
Till comes into the fight with a 18-2-1 record while Whittaker is 20-5.
