Diandra Martin stopped at One Championship by youngster Smilla Sundell
Making her One Championship debut last Friday, Diandra Martin was stopped by 17-year-old prospect Smilla Sundell in the third round of their Muay Thai super series bout.
Martin, who trains out of the Muay U gym in Canberra, put in a gallant effort but despite her young age, Sundell had experience on her side and she took control early, coming forward and beating the Australian to the strike.
As the two clinched against the cage, Sundell dropped Martin for the first time, with a knee to the mid-section.
Sundell stayed the aggressor, continuously on the front foot which pushed the Aussie against the cage and as the two clinched in the second round, another knee to the stomach dropped Martin. She beat the count however only a few seconds later was back on the canvas, this time due to a jab to the body. To her credit, Martin got back to the feet and finished the round with a push-kick.
The Swedish youngster finished the fight early in the last round, landing another blow to the body before throwing a hook and jab to the face, with the jab finding its mark.
The win came 1:35 into the third round.
An impressive One Championship debut for Sundell who takes her Muay Thai/Kickboxing record to 32-5 and a gallant loss for Martin who hopefully gets another opportunity in the promotion.
