Jamie Mullarkey was hoping to keep his impressive recent form going but the Central Coast product was stopped in his tracks by Jalin Turner today in the UFC.
It’s a fourth consecutive stoppage victory for Turner who mixed his strikes up to bruise and bloody Mullarkey in the opening round but the 26-year-old American was left wobbled from a left hook from the Australian in a flurry of exchanges near the start of the bout. Mullarkey secured a confidence-boosting takedown last in the round.
Turner was able to compose himself though and in the second round strikes pushed Mullarkey against the cage and Turner unloaded, particularly with the right that dropped Mullarkey and the referee shortly after stopped the fight.
The end came 0:46 into the contest as “The Tarantula” Turner moves his record to 12-5 (UFC 5-2). It was also his third win over an Australian opponent having defeated Callan Potter and Joshua Culibao previously.
Twenty-seven-year-old Mullarkey drops to 14-5 (UFC 2-3).
The bout headlined the preliminary card of UFC 272 taking place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
