A training partner of UFC number one contender Robert Whittaker, Sydney’s Jacob Malkoun is making a name for himself inside the middleweight division as he claimed a unanimous decision against Nick Maximov earlier today.
Malkoun was dropped to his knees early into the contest but managed to regain his composure to press the action against Maximov who by the end of round one was hampered by an injured right leg.
The ringside doctor came in to check on the injury between both rounds but Maximov was given the O.K to continue.
Malkoun capitalised on this, earning nine takedowns throughout the contest, with Maximov’s manoeuvrability severely diminished. The Aussie also dominated on the feet, out-landing Maximov 83 to 34 in significant strikes.
The decision was clear across the board with all three judges scoring it 30-27.
Malkoun moves his record to 7-2 (UFC 3-2) while Maximov drops two straight to go 8-2 as a professional.
