Late last year at UFC 281, Adesanya remained undefeated in the middleweight division until he lost the championship belt to Pereira. Many believed he was winning the fight. However, the Kiwi succumbed to a TKO finish in the 5th round. Prior to this loss, Adesanya was running laps through the division and had stacked up five title defences.
Pereira had quickly risen through the ranks of the middleweight division and, with only three wins in the UFC at the time, received a title shot against his kickboxing rival Israel Adesanya. On the verge of losing his first UFC title fight, Pereira pulled off one of the most incredible comebacks of the year, knocking out the former champ once again and taking home the gold strap. Pereira remains undefeated in the UFC (4-0) and holds a professional record of 7 wins and 1 loss.
