Jimmy Crute has suffered a 2nd round submission loss to Alonzo Menifield in their light heavyweight bout on the prelims of UFC 290 in Las Vegas.
Menifield found some success with his boxing in the first round, however Crute was able to push his opponent to the cage, where he used cage grappling and knees in the clinch. Menifield maintained his striking success as round 2 started, and was able to defend a single leg takedown attempt from Crute, leading him to lock in a guillotine submission.
This was the second time the pair had faced off, their last fight ending in a draw after Menifield was given a point deduction earlier this year at UFC 284 in Perth.
Crute’s record now moves to 12-4-1, with Menifield’s now reading 14-3-1.
Crute seemingly hinted at retiring from MMA, as he took his gloves off and left them in the centre of the cage, however he recollected his gloves after speaking with his corner and was not interviewed in the cage after his fight.
