Perth’s Jordan Godtfredsen has come up short in his ONE Championship debut.
“Wolf” pushed former four-time Muay Thai World Champion Yodlekpet Or Atchariya all the way to a split decision at ONE Friday Fights 25 on July 14 at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Godtfredsen used his seven-inch height advantage to great effect in the opening round of the catchweight Muay Thai battle, using his legs and straight punches to keep Yodlekpet at bay.
The Thai star ramped up the pace in the second frame, as the pair largely traded knees and elbows in a round that could have been scored either way.
The pressure started to tell in the third round and a hard left hook appeared to wobble Godtfredsen momentarily. The Aussie recovered, but was forced to fight off the back foot for the remainder of the bout as Yodlekpet marched forward and unloaded punches. Another hard right hand moments before the final bell sealed the round for the Thai.
In the end, it was the forward motion of Yodlekpet that got the attention of two of the judges, with “The Destroyer” awarded the split decision nod.
Yodlekpet improved his record under the ONE banner to 4-0, for an overall career mark of 88-33. However, ONE Fight Night 25 was the first time the 28-year-old has been taken the distance in his promotional tenure.
Godtfredsen falls to 33-10 with the defeat, but the 30-year-old will have lost no fans with a spirited performance in his promotional debut.
