Shaun Etchell (pictured right) kept his undefeated record intact on Saturday night with an early Submission of fellow Launceston local Justin Richardson in the main event at Valor: C Series 4.
Etchell secured the victory in the first period with a guillotine choke. The first round stoppage makes it three in a row for Etchell, who in his debut stopped Luke Hodgetts with punches at the promotion’s C Series 2 show, before knocking out Damian Sirisomphone in the opening period with a big slam at Valor 3: Invicta. With this loss, Justin Richardson drops to 1-2 in the promotion. The match was contested at 60 kilograms.
In what was his retirement fight on Saturday night, Valor co-founder Dan “The Riot” Hyatt defeated New Zealand striker Josh Karst in the co-main event. Ending his five year career on a high, the 25 year-old stopped the kiwi in the first round with a knee to the head. Post fight photos revealed a nasty looking gash above Karst’s left eye. Hyatt announced some weeks back that this one would be his last fight.
The next offering from Valor, Valor 6: Validation, will take place on November 30 at the same Launceston location — Albert Hall.
