The ADCC 2015 World Submission Fighting Championships got underway in Brazil on Saturday.
With many of the worlds best no-gi submission artists in the brackets, it was always going to be a tough challenger for the competing Australians to progress past the initial stages.
Coming out of the Absolute MMA & Conditioning gym in Melbourne, Lachlan Giles came up against three-time world BJJ champion and current MMA fighter Gilbert Burns in the under 77 kilogram division. The Aussie was submitted via an armbar with his opponent later winning his next bout and progressing to the semi-finals.
After being drawn against the defending Under 88 kg champion Romulo Barral, South Australian grappler Craig Jones was submitted with a kimura in his opening bout. Barral went on to defeat Neiman Gracie via the same method in his next bout to progress to the semi-finals.
In the under 99 kilogram division, Tobias Green lost via leg-lock to Brazilian Cassio da Silva in his opening bout. Also notably in the same division, Cuban-Australian Hector Lombard looked impressive in his opening round win against Jason Bukich however was edged out by the grerat Xande Ribeiro in the quarter-finals by a referee decision.
