After months of rumors and speculation regarding details of the UFC’s December return to Australia, we finally got answers today.
As reported by ‘This Week in MMA‘, the promotion’s director of operations for Australia, New Zealand and Canada, Mr Tom Wright, confirmed at a Brisbane press conference, that the Brisbane Entertainment Centre will play host to the show on December 7 (local time).
Wright also confirmed the previously rumored five round main event for the show today between Mark Hunt (9-8) and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (18-5). No further matchups were announced.
This will be the UFC’s debut Brisbane offering after previously hosting shows on local soil in Sydney and most recently on the Gold Coast last year. Tickets for the show will go on sale to the general public on October 10.
This appearance will be Mark Hunt’s second for the promotion in Australia, as he looks to steer back towards title contendership, following a third round TKO loss to former heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos in the “Fight of the Night” at UFC 160. Prior to the defeat, the “Super Samoan” was enjoying a four-fight winning run which saw him conquer Chris Tuchscherer, Ben Rothwell, Cheick Kongo, and Stefan Struve, whose jaw he broke with a devastating left hook in Japan.
Also coming off a TKO loss at UFC 160, Antonio Silva will be out for redemption following his failed attempt at the heavyweight title in the event’s main event against Cain Velasquez, in which the 33 year-old was stopped in the first round with punches.
