Martin Nguyen (4-0) makes his One Championship return this Sunday night at the promotion’s Odyssey of Champions event in Jakarta. The undefeated Sydney based featherweight will face Pakistani fighter Bashir Ahmad (3-2).
The event takes place at Jakarta’s Istora Senayan and will be broadcast live via the promotion’s website, oneppv.com. Nguyen vs Ahmad, however, is one of four prelim fights which will stream live via the promotion’s Facebook page. In the main event, featherweight champion Narantungalag Jadamba will put his title on the line when he comes up against undefeated Russian challenger Marat Gafuro.
Following a 12 month layoff due to a staph infection in his chest, Nguyen, 26, stepped up on short notice late last year to win his One Championship debut against the previously unbeaten Rocky Batolbatol. The KMA Liverpool trained fighter snatched the win via a second round rear-naked choke.
Nguyen’s opponent, Bashir Ahmad will be eager to get back in the winner’s column following a TKO loss to Amir Khan at One Championship 26. Training out of the Team Quest Thailand gym, this fight will be the 32 year-old’s fifth appearance in the promotion.
