Paul “The Sting” Slowinski will make his much anticipated MMA debut this Saturday night in front of his home crowd at the Adelaide Arena in South Australia. His set to headline the MMA Downunder 4 event and will be taking on New Zealand heavyweight Leamy Tato (3-3).
Accomplished in Muaythai and K-1 bouts, Slowinski spent time earlier this year training with the Blackzilian team alongside UFC fighters Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva.
On an episode of “Hammer Time Fight Show” recorded earlier this year, Slowinski spoke about his move to Mixed Martial Arts.
“I had quite a few fight falling through this year. It’s just harder to get fights. I looked at going to UFC to keep active, keep busy. I just wanted to see how I go against guys like Thiago Silva and Rashad Evans and see what it’s all about. Training was good! Stand-up wise nothing surprised but just on the floor or against the cage I found myself in trouble. I didn’t know what to do.”
The big question will be if Tato can get the fight to the ground to capitalise. A veteran of the sport, Tato will be no walkover for Slowinski with the tough New Zealand fighter having previously defeated fellow New Zealand veterans Hiriwa Te Rangi and Matthew Toa. Losses have come to Lucas Browne and Soa Palelei.
In a interstate battle, local boy Terry “Balboa” Kim will be eager to get a win in front of his home crowd as he takes on New South Wales based fighter Giancarlo Embradora while David De Conte meets Valor Welterweight Champion Callan Potter. In a women’s bout, Mae-Lin Leow faces boxing world champion Arlene Blencowe.
