Australian Fighting Championship 16 takes place at the Melbourne Pavilion this Saturday night. The nine fight card will be headlined by an anticipated heavyweight title bout between current AFC heavyweight champion, Brandon Sosoli and heavy-hitter, Tai Tuivasa.
Sosoli, of the Freestyle Fighting Gym in Wollongong, will be defending his title for the first time, after securing a dominant ground-and-pound finish against stand-up artist Andre Meunier in June last year. Tuivasa the challenger, is fighting out of Sydney’s Lions High Performance Centre and is coming off an early TKO stoppage of Gul Pohatu at Urban Fight Night 5 in December (fight video).
The co-headliner will be contested at lightweight between local Victorian Nikos Trepca from Extreme MMA and Tim Zosh from Gamebred Academy in Queensland while Integrated MMA youngster Issac Hardman comes up against Kaan Ofli.
The previously announced semi-finals for the AFC lightweight tournament have been postponed due to multiple injuries sustained by contenders. The tournament will continue at AFC 17 later in the year.
