Steve Reeks was crowned the inaugural Storm Damage featherweight champion on Saturday night with wins over Richard Kemp-Hay and Peter Cross in the four-man one-night eliminator tournament.
The hometown favorite was forced to go the distance in his opening bout by Kemp-Hay, who he eked out a split points decision over before submitting Cross with a rear-naked choke in the first round of the final. Cross earned his place in the final with a first round submission of Luke Apps.
Kemp-Hay announced in the lead up to Saturday night that this event will be his last. Reeks is slated to meet Tom Cruz next in a bantamweight tournament fight at Brace 27 on May 17.
In the co-main event, Chad Price defeated Leo Diaz and will now go on to face welterweight champion Kevin Ryan at Storm Damage 6.
The promotion has revealed that Storm Damage 5 will take place on August 30. The event will feature a one-night eliminator tournament to decide the promotion’s lightweight champ.
Storm Damage 4 took place at the Southern Cross Basketball Stadium in Tuggeranong, ACT.
