For the first time, a professional title will be up for grabs in Aftershock MMA this weekend as Kairin Moses faces off against Trent Girdham for the bantamweight title.
The event, Aftershock 26, takes place at the YMCA in Bowen Hills, Queensland on Saturday night.
The Brisbane based promotion until fairly recently, had only contested amateur bouts on their card with professional bouts introduced earlier this year.
Training out of the Australian Top Team, 19 year-old Trent Girdham (3-0) came through the amateur ranks in Aftershock before making his professional debut back in March where he submitted Joe Pollock. The youngster, who participated in Muay Thai, has remained undefeated in his MMA career, stopping Craig Lankester in May before dominating George Malizis to win by decision in his last bout at Superfight 3.
Girdham’s opponent Kairin Moses (2-1) from Gladstone, Queensland last fought back in May on the Aftershock 5 card where he suffered a loss to Craig Lankester due to being disqualified for kicking a downed opponent. Prior to that Moses stopped Aden Hawke earlier this year and in his MMA debut back in 2013, he looked impressive accounting for former One Championship fighter Suasday Chau.
Also in pro fights on the card, Alex Gorgees will take on Sammy Croke in a welterweight bout while local fighter Craig Lankester will meet former Commonwealth Games wrestler turned MMA fighter Shane Parker.
