Edwin Arana earned himself a spot in the next round of the bantamweight championship tournament on Saturday night after submitting Mark Baskin at just 22 seconds of the opening round with a guillotine choke.
The fight served as the main event at Ascend 1, which was the debut offering in the promotion’s pro-am series.
Arana staggered Baskin early with a left hook before locking up a guillotine choke and pulling guard, he forced the tap from there not long after. With the win, the former featherweight champion rebounds from a loss to Chris Morris which he suffered earlier in the year at Unarmed Combat Unleashed 2. Baskin suffers his first pro defeat with the result, after going into the bout with an unblemished 2-0 record.
Ascend 1 took place at the North Sydney Leagues Club. The next event from Brace will take place on May 17 at the AIS Arena in Canberra (Brace 27). The event will feature the second group of round 1 matchups in the 2014 championship tournament.
