Absolute MMA & BJJ coach/trained Craig Jones has submitted both his opponents on day one of the 2017 ADCC World Championships to move on to the semi-finals scheduled for tomorrow.
The championship, which takes place every two years, is this year being hosted in Finland.
Jones took out one of the favourites in the under 88kg division when he capitalised on a mistake by Leandro Lo to secure a rear-naked choke submission.
The 26-year-old backed that up in the quarter-final stage, defeating Murilo Santana with a jumping triangle choke.
He will now battle against well known grappler Keenan Cornelius in an attempt to become the first Australian male to make the final of an ADCC world championship event. It won’t get much easier should he progress to the final with the winner taking on either Alexandre “Xande” Ribeiro or Gordon Ryan.
Also in the under 88kg division, Kit Dale battled Romulo into overtime before he was submitted while in the under 77kg division, Lachlan Giles lost via points to JT Torres.
