The Serra-Longo trained Al Iaquinta upset Ross Pearson today, stopping the Englishman with punches in the second round. The lightweight clash served as the co-main event and was streamed live on Fox Sports in Australia.
UFC Fight Night: Rockhold vs Bisping took place on Nov. 8 at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.
Peason took centre cage in what was solely a standup battle in the opening minutes. Both fighters landed with strikes throughout the first round, which was evenly contested.
Pearson again came forward in the second round. The Brit was sent crashing backwards however by a right hand from Iaquinta. Although he regained his feet, Pearson was still dazed and Iaquinta capitalised and unleashed with a barrage of punches which forced the referee to wave the technical striking battle off.
The win follows Iaquinta’s TKO win over Rodrigo Damm at UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs Mousasi 2 in September and moves his record to 10-3-1 (UFC 5-2). Pearson slumps to 16-8-1nc (UFC 8-4, 1NC) with the defeat.
