Australia’s Alex Chambers will make her return to the Octagon in November when she takes on compatriot Nadia Kassem in a strawweight battle in Sydney.
The preliminary match-up was confirmed earlier today by UFC officials with MMA-Today.com first reporting the contest. Qudos Bank Arena, formerly known as both Allphones Arena and Acer Arena, will host the contest on November 19.
After previously calling Sydney, Australia home, Chambers now trains out of the American Top Team gym in Coconut Creek, Florida. She last fought back in September 2015, where the 38-year-old lost to Paige VanZant via a submission late in the fight. The loss took Chambers’ career record to 5-3 and 1-2 within the promotion.
Twenty-one year-old Kassem (4-0) will be making her UFC debut at the event. The Australian Top Team youngster takes a big step-up in competition after impressing locally, albeit against less experienced competition. Kassem was due to make her debut back in June on the Auckland card, but an injury suffered in training forced her to withdraw.
UFC Fight Night 121 will be headlined by a bout between Mark Hunt and Marcin Tybura who are ranked number five and nine respectively in the UFC’s heavyweight division.
Fight Card (announced so far):
- Mark Hunt vs. Marcin Tybura
- Tai Tuivasa vs. Rashad Coulter
- Ashkan Mokhtarian vs. Ryan Benoit
- Bec Rawlings vs. Joanne Calderwood
- Belal Muhammed vs. Jesse Taylor
- Alex Volkanovski vs. Jeremy Kennedy
- Alex Chambers vs. Nadia Kassem
