Alex Roberts is only a month removed from winning the WBC Muay Thai heavyweight world title, now he has a golden opportunity to turn that into a ONE Championship belt.
“The Viking” native is set to take on Ukrainian superstar Roman Kryklia for the inaugural ONE heavyweight Muay Thai world title in the ONE Fight Night 17 main event on December 9.
Roberts trains at the Thai Boxing Pit in Perth and defeated the UK’s Lyndon Knowles for the WBC strap in October after five hard-fought rounds in his native Perth.
To claim the historic ONE title, he’ll have to get past the towering Kryklia.
The 32-year-old holds both the ONE heavyweight and light heavyweight kickboxing world titles and is unbeaten in his five appearances with the promotion since his debut in 2019. His overall win streak stands at 13-fights.
The two-metre giant hasn’t been seen since winning the ONE heavyweight kickboxing world grand prix in 2022 and will now try his hand in the Muay Thai ranks in search of a historic third world title belt.
The full ONE Fight Night 17 card is still to be announced.
