Alex Volkanovski defeated David Butt in the Wollongong Wars 2 main event on Saturday night to remain undefeated in 2014 with five straight victories. In what was his sixth consecutive win overall, ‘The Hulk’ snatched the welterweight clash with punches and elbows from full guard 1:52 into the second frame.
Impressively, the hometown victory was just one week removed from his international debut in Guam where he outpointed Kyle Reyes in the co-main event of PXC 45. The 25 year-old also holds 2014 wins over Aussie veteran Jai Bradney, Brazilian Rodolfo Marques and Greg Atzori. In late 2013, Volkanovski kicked off his undefeated streak with a TKO win over Luke Mark Catubig at AFC 7.
In the co-main event, Kevin Manderson defeated the Sinosic/Perosh trained Byron Cowell by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Brendan Sosoli stopped Simon Osborne by TKO at 2:14 of round one in the other pro bout.
Wollongong Wars 2 took place at Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul, NSW.
