Aussies Alex Volkanovski has defeated arguably the greatest UFC featherweight fighter of all time.
Taking on Jose Aldo at UFC 237 in Brazil, Volkanovski scored a unanimous decision, 30-27 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Volkanovski walked into the cage to a hostile Brazilian crowd but it did not do much to deter the Aussie. He executed his gameplan to perfection almost doubling the output of Aldo and pushing the Brazilian up against the cage when needed.
The win puts Volkanovski into a rare class of fighter that includes only Conor McGregor and Max Holloway who have defeated Aldo inside the UFC. It is also the first time Aldo has lost a non-championship fight in fourteen years.
The win should cement Volkanovski as the number 1 contender of the featherweight division and line him up for a shot at Max Holloway’s featherweight title.
“I’m next in line, 100 percent,” Volkanovski said inside the cage after the fight.
“Let’s set it up, yeah. I wouldn’t mind being on the same card (as potential Whittaker-Adesanya fight) in Australia. That would be a cracker of a card, let’s make it happen.”
