Alex Volkanovski is eyeing a return to the cage in January, according to some UFC rumours.
The alleged bout would headline UFC 297 in Canada and see Volkanovski defend his featherweight title against number five ranked challenger Ilia Topuria.
The timeline for a January bout seems to be on the cards for the Aussie champ, after he posted in late September that January sounded good for him.
In his last fight, Volkanovski TKO’d interim champion Yair Rodriguez in the third round to unify the UFC featherweight title. Following this bout, he underwent surgery on his arm which kept him out of UFC 293 in Sydney.
Volkanovski was asked at the UFC 290 post-fight press conference about the possibility of a match up with Topuria, saying “I’m gonna squash that bloke, so it doesn’t matter.”
Topuria holds a perfect 14-0 record, his last bout being a decision win over Josh Emmet in June.
“I look forward to taking that zero.” Volaknosvki said.
