Alex Volkanovski added the Pacific X-treme Combat featherweight title to his collection on Friday night, submitting former title holder Yusuke Yachi in the co-main event of PXC 50. “The Hulk” (11-1) forced the belt from the Japanese fighter with a triangle choke submission in the fourth round.
Now enjoying an eight-fight undefeated run, the 27 year-old Shellharbour, NSW native continues to cement his place at the top end of the Australian featherweight division with the win. Volkanovski, who also holds a number of local titles in Australia, has beaten some of the best in the country including Jai Bradney, Rodolfo Marques, Greg Atzori and Anton Zafir, with his lone loss coming at the hands of Corey Nelson back in 2013. This fight was his second in the promotion after outpointing PXC veteran Kyle Reyes late last year.
It was also a good night for the two New Zealand fighters representing on the night with Kai Kara-France continuing his impressive run at flyweight with a first round TKO of Josh Duenas while Mark Abelardo stopped Roman Alvarez with punches in the second round of their bantamweight clash.
PXC 50 took place at UOG Calvo Field House in Guam and was streamed at Livestream.com. In the main event, Washington DC based Frank Camacho stopped local fighter Tyrone Jones, in a fight which was originally for the vacant PXC lightweight title.
