Aussie featherweight Arlene Blencowe (6-4) made an impressive start to her Bellator campaign on Saturday morning by stopping 33 year-old California based fighter Adrienna ‘A.J’ Jenkins (18-6) late in the opening round. Blencowe, 32, put away her more experienced opponent with punches to win by TKO 4:08 into the fight.
With the victory, Blencowe extends her winning run to four, with three of those wins coming by KO/TKO and one by submission. The Taree, NSW native, who is the first Australian female to be signed by the promotion, stopped Kiwi Invicta FC fighter Faith Van Duin in Canberra prior to the win.
The bout took place on the non-televised preliminary portion of Bellator 137, which was held at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California. The main event featured a middleweight title fight between former champion Brandon Halsey and Kendall Grove. Halsey got the job done by TKO in the fourth round, however was forced to vacate the belt after missing weight.
