Western Sydney flyweight Ashkan “The Assassin” Mokhtarian will take on American Ryan Benoit at UFC Sydney (UFC Fight Night 121), taking place Nov. 19 at Quodos Bank Arena.
The bout was confirmed by the UFC this morning and is the second one announced in a matter of days after the main event between Mark Hunt and Marcin Tybura was set a couple of days ago.
Also announced for the card is a heavyweight tilt between Sydney’s Tai Tuivasa and Texan Rashad Coulter.
Mokhtarian, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to John Moraga in his UFC debut in June, will be looking to bounce back and potentially save his UFC career. The New-South-Welshman had only lost one of his previous fourteen fights in other MMA organisations before the defeat.
Benoit has been very up and down in terms of results in the UFC, with three wins and three losses in his time with the company. His last visit to Australia did not go his way when he was defeated by Australian based flyweight Ben Nguyen at UFC 193 in 2015. However, the American does have a notable victory over number five ranked flyweight Sergio Pettis, who is seemingly next in line for Demetrious Johnson after his impressive victory in Mexico City two weeks ago.
